Korean Jewel Painting

The Korean jewel painting is a painting style based on the Korean painting with a long tradition. Various colored natural stone dust is used in creating art pieces.

In August Juche 77 (1988), Chairman Kim Jong Il saw various art pieces created with natural jewels and rare stone dust by an artist of the Mansudae Art Studio and named the newly-created painting style "Korean jewel painting".

The Korean jewel painting, based on the organic combination of the pictorial method and industrial art technique, is characterized mainly by soft paints, durable color and mysterious ornamental effects

"Taedong River in February", "The Snow Is Falling", "Tiger of Mt Paektu" and other art pieces of national treasure show well the superior artistic features of the Korean jewel painting.

Today, the Korean jewel painting is produced at different art studios across the country, greatly contributing to the cultural and emotional life of people.
