Engage in diplomacy with North Korea

"One of the biggest foreign policy challenges the Biden administration will have to face is a nuclear-armed North Korea."

Christine Ahn said this in her opinion article "For Biden, the answer to North Korea is now impossible to ignore" carried by The Hill on Friday.

The writer is the executive director of Women Cross DMZ, a global movement of women mobilizing to end the Korean War.

Her caution:

"But if Biden thinks that being tougher is the answer, don't be surprised to see ramped up tensions between the U.S. and North Korea next year. Such a scenario would be more dangerous than ever."

Her recommendation:

"Biden must signal to North Korea that the U.S. will honor the Singapore Declaration and is ready to engage without preconditions. His administration must take a step-by-step diplomatic process to build trust and reduce tensions."

Whether or not Biden lends his ears to Christine Ahn, the full text will remain for years for a diplomatic breakthrough.
