Twenty four civic and social organizations of south Korea including the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification have reportedly held a news conference at the Kwanghwamun Plaza in Seoul on April 13 to blame the U.S. for putting its unreasonable pressure upon south Korea to increase its share of defence cost.

The organizations said in a press release that the U.S. government refused to agree to the proposal for the share of defence cost, the biggest one in history, put by south Korea.

The press release noted that as the U.S. military presence in south Korea is for the U.S. security, south Korea has no reason to bear itself with the upkeep of the U.S. forces and if the U.S. wants military presence in south Korea, it should pay such expenses as rent for military bases.
