South Korean body launches action for peace

The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification (SPARK - ed), an organization of south Korea, reportedly launched an action for the establishment of a peace mechanism of the Korean peninsula outside the building of the south Korean Ministry of Defense on Sept. 26.

Recalling that crisis control authority was transferred to the "UN commander" as demanded by the U.S. during the south Korea-U.S. joint military drills in August, the organization accused the U.S. of trying to keep the prerogative of the supreme command of the south Korean army through the "UN command", which should have already been dissolved, in a bid to drag south Korea into the U.S. scenario for dominating the world.

Criticizing the U.S. for pressurizing south Korea to renew its military intelligence-sharing agreement with Japan, it urged the U.S. and the south Korean authorities to roll back their hostile policy toward the north and opt for ensuring peace.

US demands more upkeep for its forces

The Youth Popular Party reportedly had a press conference outside the Institute for National Defense Studies in Seoul on September 25 to blast the U.S. pressure for the increase of the upkeep for its forces in south Korea.

At the press conference a press release was read out.

The U.S. is imposing more upkeep for its forces in south Korea, it noted.

It said that the upkeep for the U.S forces has never been frozen nor reduced but has always increased on demand from the U.S.

It stressed that the U.S. should withdraw its unreasonable demand and return to south Korea the amount that has not yet been spent, adding that the increase in the upkeep for the U.S. forces does not accord with the era of peace and prosperity on Korean peninsula.

Truth behind suicides in South Korean military

The committee for probing the truth behind deaths and accidents in military of south Korea on September 25 made public the truth behind the suicide cases that occurred in the south Korean military in 1985, according to the south Korean Yonhap News.

At that time, when a private committed suicide while on guard, the south Korean military authorities drew a conclusion that he killed himself due to arduous exercises and an injury.

But, recently, it was revealed by the result of intensified investigation into the case that the suicide was attributable to senior privates' sustained assaults.

It was disclosed that a lance-corporal committed suicide in the same year owing to his senior staff sergeant's continued and violent assaults and cruel acts, not his ill-fated family environment and aversion for military service as how the military results reported.

Even children deride conservative traitors' party

The "Liberal Korea Party", the party of conservative traitors in south Korea, is finding itself in a piteous plight as it has become the laughingstock of even the youth and children, to say nothing of the people of various circles.

A typical example is a song in demand of the dissolution of the LKP composed by the vanguard of the youth and children for reunification made up of pupils of elementary and secondary schools.

The song entitled "Number song for dissolution of the LKP" interprets the numbers from one to ten, lampooning and ridiculing the party of traitors which is being criticized and denounced by the people for its evil deeds.

The song is the stern death sentence passed on the LKP by the rising generation which will represent the future, and reflection of the public mindset to stamp out the group of traitors.

To look back upon history, the gentries of the LKP have always been peerless criminals who have seriously threatened even the future of th…

DPRK to strengthen relations with NAM member states

By DPRK Delegation Head

Head of a delegation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea made a speech at NAM Foreign Ministerial Meeting on September 26 during the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly.

Noting ever since the emergence of unilateralism with the end of the cold war between the East and the West, power politics are increasingly prevailing over the international arena and interference, threats and wars of aggression are incessantly perpetrated against the NAM member states, he said:

In particular, the armed invasion against Iraq following the deceptive allegation of the so-called "possession of WMD" at the UN Security Council left a disgraceful page in the UN history.

In today's reality where high-handedness and arbitrariness driven by unilateralism become ever more undisguised, this incident is not a story of the past, but a serious lesson to be remembered forever by the sovereign states.

Without containing unilateralism, it is not possible …

Japan’s move to mess up international sports games

By Om Ryong

Japan insists on using the "flag of rising sun shedding rays" during the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020.

The Japanese imperialist aggressors used the flag in the past wars of aggression, as they killed many innocent people in Asian countries during the Second World War as they flew the flag. Therefore, the Korean and other Asian peoples regard it as a symbol of evil.

But Japan is trying to hang out the flag in streets, other public places and stadiums during the international games.

This is an intolerable insult to the Asian peoples who were subjected to misfortune and sufferings due to Japan’s aggression and a mockery of the ideal of the Olympics aspiring after peace and friendship.

What the Japanese reactionaries seek in hoisting the flag is to abuse the sacred international games as a lever for the revival of militarism.

The charter of the Olympics forbids the display of all forms of propaganda articles related to politics, religion and racism in the venues of …

Confrontational moves of South Korean war hawks

By Min Chol

The south Korean military’s another confrontational move against the fellow countrymen has been disclosed to arouse public criticism.

According to south Korean media outlets, the military had agreed with the US to commit US warships and aircraft in case of armed conflict in the hot spot in the West Sea of Korea.

This means that at the request of the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff of south Korea, the landing craft of the US navy carrying the stealth fighter F-35B and tilt rotor aircraft Osprey of the US marines will be deployed promptly in the water area.

In accordance with the agreement, the south Korean military has conducted a drill to repulse the “north’s surprise attack” with the backing of the US marines in every joint command post-based training with the Americans.

The recent revelation clearly shows the real intention of the south Korean war hawks who are taking a risky war gamble in collusion with outside forces, in flagrant violation of inter-Korean decla…

DPRK delegation head at UNGA high-level meeting

By DPRK Delegation Head

The head of the delegation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea made a speech at the UNGA High-Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage on September 23.

He said that activities on public health are for saving the valuable lives of human being and ensuring their dignity and fundamental rights, adding that public health is also a core issue of SDGs (sustainable development goals).

He went on:

Yet still, nearly half of the world population do not have access to basic medical care, let alone the benefit from advanced medical science, and its underlying cause can be said to be the lack of political will and practical efforts of the member states.

Public health system under the people-centered socialist country of our own style is a complete and universal free medical system which provides the medical care to all without distinction as to gender, age, occupation and residence.

We have set out the goal to elevate the health indices, including ave…

It is better to make friends than do foes

By Min Chol

Since the end of the Second World War that plunged the whole globe into the ravages of war and massacre, the US has searched for "next foes" and it still directs much energy and time to the quest of "foes".
'Foes' the US found Upon the conclusion of WWII the US saw the Soviet Union as the biggest enemy. After the latter's collapse it needed next foe.

The former US president George W. Bush declared a war on terror in the wake of the gargantuan terrorist attack in September 11 2001.

The US chose al-Qaida and Taliban as its worst enemies.

During the war, it extended its sphere of influence in Iraq and Afghanistan and pursued economic interests through oil and other natural resources in the region.

In the 21st century, it designated Russia as the most threatening state.

Today's Russia cannot be compared to the former Soviet Union in the days of the Cold War.

With the collapse of the Soviet Union, its constituent republics broke away, …

Kim Kye Gwan hopes for Trump's wisdom and boldness

By DPRK FM Advisor Kim Kye Gwan

Kim Kye Gwan, advisor to the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, released the following statement on September 27:

It draws my keen interest that it is highly topical these days in the U.S. to hold another DPRK-U.S. summit.

The past DPRK-U.S. summit meetings and talks served as historic occasions for the top leaders of the DPRK and the U.S. to express their political will to put an end to the hostile relations between the two countries and have peace and stability settled on the Korean peninsula.

But no practical follow-up was made to implement the issues agreed upon at the summit talks, casting shadow over the possibility of future summit talks.

The DPRK has made sincere efforts to build trust and implement the DPRK-U.S. joint statement, as evidenced by the repatriation of American detainees, who committed hostile acts against the DPRK, and of GIs' remains, etc.

However, the U.S. has done nothing for impleme…

S Korean conservatives opposing prosecution reform

Farce for Seizing Power

The conservative group of south Korea, obsessed with a wild ambition for power, has recently revealed its black-hearted intention over the issue of the prosecution reform in south Korea.

The Minju Party and other democratic reformist forces fully support the authorities' appointment of new minister of Justice and call for a further intensified struggle for eradicating deep-seated evils and reform of power organs.

Much upset by it, the coteries of the "Liberal Korea Party" held an emergency meeting, in which they talked much about "intention to do harm to the public", "death of legalism" and "disappearance of common sense and justice." They agitate the like-minded conservatives, talking about "one million people's torch action."

After a team for accelerating the reform of the prosecution was formed, they began desperately opposing the prosecution reform, saying "the prosecution reform just m…

Japan must not debase Olympic Charter and idea

By Jo Thaek Bom
Rodong Sinmun

Japan is going to use the "flag of the rising sun shedding rays" symbolic of war of aggression during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

This is an intolerable insult to the people of Asian nations, who were forced to suffer misfortune and pain by the Japanese imperialists' aggression, and that it is mockery of the Olympic idea aspiring after peace and friendship.

To see the flag flying at public places including the venue of the Olympics is unimaginable.

If so, it will rub salt into the wound of the Asian people again.

That is why the international community is strongly opposing the use of the flag.

If the Japanese reactionaries want to successfully hold the sporting event, they should not swim against the public mindset of Asia, as well as the rest of the world, but throw away the rubbish flag.

Japanese past crimes of plundering Korea

By KCNA During their colonial rule over Korea, the Japanese imperialists massively plundered Korea of its underground resources.

They cooked up the "Korea Mining Act" in December 1915 in order to ensure their monopolistic and massive loot.

They established gold refineries in Korea to ship 97.225 million won (the then Korean currency) worth of gold to Japan from 1910 to 1918.

They also made a monopoly of the right to develop iron mines in Korea and stole 1 007 000 tons of iron ore and a large amount of copper, tungsten ore and graphite for five years from 1914 to 1918.

After provoking the war of aggression on the continent and the Pacific War, their moves to pillage underground resources became more desperate.

They robbed 52 215 tons of copper from 1937 to 1944 and 5.596 million tons of iron ore from 1943 to 1944.

They also transported 18 335 486 tons of soft coal and more than ten million tons of hard coal to Japan from 1937 to 1944.

Japan should apologize and make reparat…

Japan's project for constitutional revision

By KCNA Japan has openly revealed its project for constitutional revision.

Prime Minister Abe, at a recent press conference concerning Cabinet reshuffle, confirmed again his "determination to carry out constitutional revision at any cost."

Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Aso also called for specifying the existence of the "Self-Defense Forces" in the Constitution. A series of similar remarks are heard within the Liberal Democratic Party recently.

This shows that the island nation is working hard to turn itself into a military giant and realize the wild ambition for overseas expansion.

Japan's desperate moves for constitutional revision are aimed to turn itself into a war state by setting up a legal and institutional mechanism for unleashing a war.

For over 70 years since its defeat in the war, Japan has never dropped its revengeful thoughts and wild ambition for reinvasion.

It has steadily pursued the policy for militarization and military giant, …

Tokyo Olympics under war criminal flag

By Sin Yong Nam
Minju Joson

Japan insists on the use of the "flag of rising sun shedding rays" during the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga at a recent press conference claimed that the use of the flag is not a political declaration and the organizing committee of the Tokyo Olympic Games and Paralympics does not deem it as a taboo.

The "flag of rising sun shedding rays" is the war criminal flag which left an indelible scar in the hearts of the world people as the Nazi flag did.

It lays bare what Japan seeks in persistently insisting on the use of the "flag of rising sun shedding rays" at the Olympic Games, swimming against the international law and the demand of the international community.

In fact, Japan has done all vices to others to revive militarism and realise the wild ambition for overseas aggression ever since its defeat in World War II, as evidenced by its praising war criminals sternly punished by mankind as "heroes"…

War-thirsty Japanese Aegis Ashore

By Ri Hak Nam
Rodong Sinmun

Japan is trying to push ahead with the deployment of Aegis Ashore. Japan Defence Ministry has already made public a plan for reexamination of the deployment and expressed a viewpoint that Akita and Yamaguchi prefectures are fit for the deployment.

Japanese reactionaries justify the deployment, claiming that Aegis Ashore is needed for the defense of Japan from the missile of the DPRK.

The claims is a manifestation of chronic evil practice of Japan accustomed to seeking its interests on the plea of non-existent "threat" from the DPRK.

Japan should not deceive the world with such cock-and-bull story as to cope with the "threat."

Experts contend that Aegis Ashore is offensive missile complex which is able to be loaded with cruise missile. The neighboring countries say that if Aegis Ashore is deployed in Japan, vast tracts of their territories will be within the range, adding that it will spawn a series of serious issues.

Chongryon educators vow to preserve national education

Education-related leading officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) issued statements on Sept. 18 denouncing Japanese reactionaries for their unreasonable discrimination against Korean children in Japan.

Sin Kil Ung, chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the Union of Korean Teachers in Japan, said that the Japanese government in league with the judiciary, not content with excluding students of Korean schools, descendents of victims of the colonial policy by the Japanese imperialists, from the tuition-free program for senior high schools, is employing every possible crafty trick to exclude the young Korean children from the free infant education and upbringing system.

He said that all the members of the union will arouse all the Koreans in Japan to the struggle for the settlement of the issue of the free infant education and upbringing system.

Atonement for past crimes is for Japan itself

German President asks for Poland's forgiveness on 80th anniversary of start of WWII Commentary in Minju Joson During his recent visit to a local city of Poland, Steinmeier, president of Germany, made an apology to many people who had been killed in indiscriminate air raid by the fascist German air force, the bereaved families and citizens.

At the memorial service he made clear a stand that his country has assumed the responsibility that history entrusts to it and remember it forever in the future.

To our regret there is a country diametrically different from Germany in terms of the past, adding that it is just Japan.

Japan's war crimes in Korea and China and Southeast Asia are hideous crimes against mankind.

What matters is that Japan does not have an iota of guilty consciousness of its shuddering past crimes.

Japan still refuses to admit its war crimes and distorts history by claiming that it contributed to peace and security of Asia. Therefore, it has no idea of an apolog…

DPRK welcomes Trump's wise political decisions

By DPRK FM Roving Ambassador Kim Myong Gil

Kim Myong Gil, roving ambassador of the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, released the following statement on Friday:

I have read with keen interest the report that U.S. President Trump pointed to the injustice of applying the mode of "Libyan-style abandonment of nukes" to the DPRK and proposed a "new method" for the improvement of the DPRK-U.S. relations.

I, as the chief delegate of the DPRK side to the DPRK-U.S. working-level negotiations, would like to welcome the wise political decision of President Trump to approach the DPRK-U.S. relations from a more practical point of view now that a nasty trouble-maker who used to face everything out of his anachronistic way of thinking has disappeared from the U.S. administration.

If the former shilly-shallying U.S. administrations with a rigid way of thinking were still in power, an uncontrollable situation would doubtless be created on…

US harasser of world peace and stability

Commentary in Minju Joson

There was a test-fire of submarine-launched ballistic missile Trident-2 D-5 by the U.S. navy in waters off San Diego, California, some days ago.

The U.S. justified the test as something unavoidable, claiming that it was for the verification of its performance aimed at extending its lifespan.

The test-fire of the missile is a dangerous military act to maintain hegemony in the field of the strategic nuclear armed forces and realize its ambition for world supremacy.

The U.S. nature as a harasser of peace and stability was brought to light.

It is the invariable ambition of the U.S. to steadily bolster the nuclear force in quality and quantity and to put it to use, if necessary, to realize its criminal aim for world domination.

The U.S. frenzy for nuclear modernization gives the lie to its rhetoric about "denuclearized world" and "nuclear disarmament".

All the countries and nations should be vigilant against the U.S. stepping up the nuclear mod…

Deceptive nature of Japan's rhetoric about 'abduction'

"Specified missing persons" have been found one after another in Japan, deriding the Japanese reactionaries who repeatedly got vocal about the "abduction issue."

The Police Agency recently announced that a man of Yamagata Prefecture origin who went missing in 1983, giving rise to a claim that "possible abduction by north Korea" can not be ruled out, was found dead in the country in April last year and a woman who was reported missing in 1990 was found safe in June this year.

In May and August the agency officially admitted that it "rules out the abduction possibility by the north" as the whereabouts of the residents who disappeared several decades ago were confirmed in the country.

As proved by the frequent release of statements by the police authorities, the "abduction issue" touted by the Japanese government is nothing but a clumsy charade which has no justification for being politicized and internationalized as it is just an…

Genealogy of South Korean pro-Japanese traitors

By Ho Yong Min
Rodong Sinmun

The coteries of the "Liberal Korea Party" (LKP) of south Korea openly incite Japanism and tout without hesitation the phrase "Our Japan".

The LKP men have long resorted to pro-Japanese acts, enraging the whole nation.

Even now, the traitors are actively following Japan in its moves to launch reinvasion, yearning for the past when their ancestors lived in wealth and luxury in return for selling the dignity and interests of the nation.

They term the righteous anti-Japanese struggle of south Koreans of all social standings "neo-seclusionism", "impulsive agitation against Japan" and "reckless suicidal act", thus revealing their colors as traitors steeped in pro-Japanism to the marrow of their bones.

Chosun Ilbo which carried the picture of the flag of the rising sun over its title dating back to the period of the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule over Korea is also actively abetting acts of pro-Japanese…

Democrats must stop dismissing diplomacy with North Korea

By Minju Bae & Ju-Hyun Park

Originally published in TruthOut

On September 11, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted a screenshot of CNN’s headline ticker and highlighted “Trump Sides with Kim Jong Un,” assessing “That’s it. That’s the headline.” She continued, “Obviously [Former National Security Advisor John] Bolton leaving is good — it was an enormous mistake to appoint him in the first place. One doesn’t need to boost authoritarians to make the point.” And then, two minutes later, Rep. Ilhan Omar retweeted Ocasio-Cortez, “Trump sides with yet another dictator.”

To their credit, both congresswomen voted for House Resolution 152 (introduced by Rep. Ro Khanna) earlier this year, which calls for the formal end to the Korean War. However, it was disappointing but unsurprising to watch two of the most progressive members of Congress discuss Korea in this light. After all, the sentiments that Representatives Ocasio-Cortez and Omar expressed are commonamong Democrats writ large. In the…

Statement by chairperson of Korean Women Union in Japan

We will fight for future of our children Kang Chu Ryon, vice-chairwoman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and chairwoman of the Central Standing Committee of the Union of Democratic Korean Women in Japan released a statement titled "We will fight to the end for the future of our children" on September 11.

The Japanese authorities are working overtly and covertly to exclude kindergartens of the Korean schools from the list of "free-of-charge system of infant education and care" by invoking "Child Rearing Support Act" which will take effect from October.

The exclusion of the children of Koreans obliged to pay consumption taxes just like the Japanese people is an extremely unfair and heinous national discrimination, the statement noted.

Japan hit for illegal intrusion into DPRK's EEZ

By DPRK MFA Spokesperson

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) gave the following answer to a question put by KCNA on September 17 with regard to Japan's intrusion into our exclusive economic zone.

On August 23 and 24, the patrol boat and ships of Japan Coast Guard were chased out by the self-defensive measures of the DPRK when those made illegal intrusion into our exclusive economic zone.

The expulsion of the Japanese ships from our zone is a just and righteous exercise of our sovereign rights.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK sternly alerted Japan through diplomatic channel to the latter's need to take due steps for heading off any possible reoccurrence of such acts of intruding into our zone and obstructing the activities of our fishing vessels.

DPRK hopes for good meeting with US

By DPRK FM DUSA Director General

The director general of the Department of U.S. Affairs of the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK Monday made public the following statement:

It is fortunate that the U.S. has repeatedly expressed its stand to tackle an issue through dialogue and negotiations.

I hope that the working-level negotiations expected to be held in a few weeks will be a good meeting between the DPRK and the U.S.

A proposal that the U.S. put forward at the negotiations may improve the relations and, on the contrary, may add to the hostility towards each other.

In other words, the DPRK-U.S. dialogue suggests two options--crisis and chance.

In this sense, the upcoming working-level negotiations will be an occasion decisive of the future road of the DPRK-U.S. dialogue

Clear and invariable is the DPRK's stand.

The discussion of denuclearization may be possible when threats and hurdles endangering our system security and obstructing our development are clearly removed beyon…
