According to south Korean media reports, the US forces in south Korea waged a drill of deploying the THAAD system in Phyongthaek, Kyonggi Province.

With public criticism growing within and without, they insist that the deployment has nothing to do with the drill as it is a procedure to move relevant equipment to other place.

The south Korean authorities said that the practice launch pad from the US military base in Osan, Kyonggi Province, was used in the exercise, adding the launch pad has no electronic and other hard-core elements and is loaded with a practice warhead that cannot be launched.

As to this, local media outlets and experts describe the drill as a deliberate one for getting on the nerves of the DPRK, as it is the first time for the US troops to show the drill in their base at Phyongthaek, though they opened to the public a training conducted at the end of last year by moving a practice THAAD launcher to their military base in Songju, North Kyongsang Province.

Such military moves are an act of military provocation spoiling the atmosphere for peace in the Korean peninsula. Neighbouring countries are also keeping a vigilant watch against their moves since the THAAD’s operational radius far surpasses the boundary of the DPRK.
