An event took place at the People's Palace of Culture on May 14 to mark the International Day of the Midwife 2019.

Present there were officials in the field of public health, those from ministries, national agencies and the media, and members of the missions of international organizations, including the representatives of the United Nations Population Fund and the WFP in the DPRK.

Speakers referred to the fact that the International Midwives Federation is conducting diverse activities to pay more public attention to the midwives under the theme of "Midwives: Defenders of Women's Rights" this year.

They stressed the need to build up the ranks of midwives and take care of pregnant women and nursing mothers in a responsible manner so as to protect women's rights.

There was a presentation of experience and a question-and-answer session for midwives.

The participants enjoyed an art performance given by the medical workers of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital.
