Last year the US declared the withdrawal from the nuclear accord with Iran and strengthened sanctions on Iran. Afterwards, the confrontational relations between both countries kept on worsening. It reached on the verge of an eruption in this month.

The US brought the decision to block the Iranian oil export into force from May 2, and then it ordered the implementation of sanctions on Iranian important metal exporting sectors.

The US raised the degree of military pressure too.

The US rushed the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) strike group and nuclear strategic bomber to the Middle East area. On May 24, it decided to additionally dispatch 1,500 troops to the Middle East.

Iran described the confrontation against the US as a confrontation of willpowers and declared the will to fight back desperately without submission to possible bombardment. After threatening that Iran could block the Strait of Hormuz, it suddenly made public the Natanz Nuclear Facility capable of quadrupling the output of the enriched uranium. Iran announced its position to deliver a "firm, decisive and crushing response" to any "adventurism".

The international society expressed grave concerns over the regional situation turning so critical that any accidental incident could create a military collision.

What attracted the eyes of the international society as much as a confrontation between Iran and the US in this month is the China-US trade war.

The US raised additional tariffs on $200 billion worth of imports from China to 25% from 10% on May 10.

In response, China decided to raise the rate of additional tariffs on a part of $60 billion worth of imports list from the US, in addition to existing additional tariffs, to 25%, 20%, or 10% from June 1.

On May 13, the US once again declared that it began the process to impose ad valorem duty on $300 billion worth of imports from China.

The China-US relations had more deteriorated in the process of the vicious cycle of mutual retaliation.

Some news outlets made it public opinion that China had the intention of using rare-earth elements as a weapon in the trade war against the US.

China produces the crucial materials for the high-tech industry more than 90% of the world's rare-earth elements. If China stops exporting rare-earth elements to the US, the latter's high-tech industry will suffer a blow.

Surrounding the issue of Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd, the face-off between both countries became fierce. On May 15, the US authority declared a national emergency under the name of protecting information or communication technology and service from "external adversaries". Accordingly, the US commerce department added Huawei and 70 affiliates to its "entity list". Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon went as far as to say that driving Huawei out of the US and Europe was "10 times more important" than a trade deal with China.

To cope with this, Huawei promptly activated its emergency measures and realized a stable and continuous supply of its most products. Huawei CEO, with regard to the US pressure, asserted that his company would not be affected. He said that nobody could catch up with his company within two or three years in terms of technology and the US underestimated Huawei.

In this whirlpool, the US recently decided to impose countervailing tariffs on any country manipulating the exchange rate for trade profits. As regards to the US move, the public opinion says that China is the target. In the past, the US labeled China currency manipulator and kept on the pressure to the latter. For this matter, the confrontation between China and the US entered a new phase.

The situation in Venezuela was complicated too.

Venezuela's situation became tense due to the confrontation between the forces supporting legally elected president Maduro and the ones pivoting around self-appointed interim president Guaido.

The US threatened Russia and Cuba, saying that they'd pay an expensive price if they won't unhand Venezuela. It suggested the possibility of military interference in Venezuela. Russia and Cuba came forward to strongly denounce the US flagrant intimidation.

Now talks are going on between representatives from the anti-government clique that tried to fail the regime change under the US support and from the government of Venezuela.

In this month, the relations between Russia and the US were uncomfortable.

In the course of the relations between both countries becoming more acute over the treaty on the elimination of intermediate-range and shorter-range missile, the US on May 16 added Chechnya's Terek Rapid Response Team of the National Guard of the Russian Federation (Rosgvardia) to sanctions list on the basis of the 2012 Magnitsky Act. Thus, the Russia-US contradiction developed into a tougher appearance. The US included Russian laboratories and production complex on sanctions list under the reason of their proliferation of weapons of mass destruction to countries such as Syria and Iran.

Sanctions on Russia

The flow of situation in this month proved that the US schemes to crush anti-imperialist independent countries to death became conspicuous day by day, and that contradiction and confrontation between the powers over their sphere of influence on the various region became more intense.
