Contradiction deteriorated, peace and security threatened

Rodong Sinmun

Last year the US declared the withdrawal from the nuclear accord with Iran and strengthened sanctions on Iran. Afterwards, the confrontational relations between both countries kept on worsening. It reached on the verge of an eruption in this month.

The US brought the decision to block the Iranian oil export into force from May 2, and then it ordered the implementation of sanctions on Iranian important metal exporting sectors.

The US raised the degree of military pressure too.

The US rushed the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) strike group and nuclear strategic bomber to the Middle East area. On May 24, it decided to additionally dispatch 1,500 troops to the Middle East.

Iran described the confrontation against the US as a confrontation of willpowers and declared the will to fight back desperately without submission to possible bombardment. After threatening that Iran could block the Strait of Hor…

Feature film "Unknown Heroes" popular in DPRK

The Korean feature film "Unknown Heroes" (20 parts) is popular among viewers still now after the lapse of 40 years since its release.

The film, completed in 1981, remains a prototype spy film in the memory of the Korean people.

Scene of secret rendezvous in the tea room Madonna
Produced against the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953), the film vividly depicted the sharp dramatic human relations, tight events and rich lyric atmosphere with compact scenario, direction, shooting, acting, narration, and music.

It impressively shows the activities of prototype heroes who unhesitatingly devoted their youth and lives to the country.

The female leading part of the film was played by Kim Jong Hwa in her twenties, who had never acted in movies before. With this film, she was recognized as a promising actress and, later, grew into a Kim Il Sung Prize winner and People's Artiste.

Kim Jong Hwa, now active as a teacher at Pyongyang University of Dramatic and Cinem…

DPRK today in fast motion with normal speed Nabucco

A friend on Facebook buttoned to share the following video:

By Joerg Daiber - November 12, 2018

Pyongyang is by far the weirdest and strangest place I have ever been to. At the same time, it's also one of the most interesting and intriguing places and unlike anywhere else I have ever been to. You go there with 100 questions and you return with 1000!

While I have no support for the government there, many things could be said at this point about North Korea, but I really do not want to get involved in politics here, so please do your own research.

Many thanks to Simon Cockerell and Jessica Mader from Koryo Tours ( ) and Ri So Hyang, Kim Sun Mi, Lee Song Hyok, Kim Yong Un from KITC for arranging permissions and making this project possible.

By the way: I did not get paid to shoot this film!

Proliferation of US diplomacy disarray news

Orderly reaction: KCNA ← China Plus ← USA Today

(KAR) -- The KCNA on May 30 published a story dispatched from Beijing the day before under the headline "China Radio International reports on US foreign policy out of control thanks to hardline conservatives". It related to a Chinese commentary appeared on May 25 in the China Plus that is the official English website of China Radio International. The commentary touched an American opinion carried by the USA Today on May 12 the author of which was Tom Nichols, a national security professor at the US Naval War College. It took 18 days for the two polar to be connected by a non-laughable stock.

DPRK citizens' favorite songs introduced by South Korean newspaper

Our National Flag
The south Korean online newspaper Jaju Sibo carried an article titled "North Korean society seen through songs loved by its citizens in 2019" on May 16.

The article said that the leaders of north Korea have given importance to the might of music and art. It went on:

In particular, Chairman of the National Defence Commission Kim Jong Il's philosophy of music is that the revolution advances and wins victory with songs. It means that the socialist revolution and construction are a solemn symphony of history and source of songs and that sonorous singing certainly helps the revolution emerge victorious.

Chairman of the State Affairs Commission Kim Jong Un attaches importance to the might of music and art.

In recent days, every art performance is started with song "Our National Flag" and the song is heard everywhere, including farms, enterprises, streets, etc.

Use of strength is not at all monopoly of US

By DPRK FM Institute for American Studies Policy Research Director

The Policy Research Director of the Institute for American Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK made public the following press statement on May 29:

It has now become disclosed that the United States conducted the 29th subcritical nuclear test at the nuclear test site of Nevada on February 13, and this arouses grave concern and denunciation of the international society.

What should be taken serious is the fact that the subcritical nuclear test was carried out just prior to the Hanoi DPRK-U.S. Summit that would discuss the issue of building a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean peninsula.

The U.S. has thus showcased its ulterior intention that it seeks a strength-based solution of the issues, though outwardly it advocates for dialogue.

That intention can be fully justified by the political, economic and military hostile acts committed by the U.S. against the DPRK, its dialogue…

Japan's ambition to seize Tok Island can never be realized

ㅠy Ri Hyo Jin
Rodong Sinmun

Japan decided to enlarge a territorial sovereignty exhibition house that houses distorted data describing Tok Island as "inalienable territory of Japan." Japan is to expand the house seven times the current area.

It means that Japan will wage a more frantic campaign to distort history by replenishing the exhibition house with false data which can deceive the public within and without insisting that Tok Island belongs to Japan.

It has been only almost a year and a half since Japan held a ceremony for opening the exhibition house in the heart of Tokyo Metropolis, but Japan declared that it would expand the exhibition house seven times the current area, which was a revelation of the undisguised wicked intention to seize the island.

Tok Island is an inalienable territory of the Korean nation both historically and legally and both in name and reality.

The Japanese reactionaries are most greedy and shameless as they are persisting in enlarging the exhib…

DPRK began producing its own whiskey

About 20 days ago, this blog posted a story under the headline "Not only missiles but also beers!" Now I just found a news that I may be able to put another item into my stomach in the near future:
DPRK began producing its own whiskey By Oleg Kiryanov
Rossiyskaya Gazeta - May 29, 2019

(Seoul) It seems that the Juche Country has found another way to break through international sanctions, and at the same time decided to compete with Scotland. The DPRK began producing its own "Samilpho whiskey", which will go on sale at the end of this year. The competitive advantage of the DPRK whiskey is in a relatively modest price and the availability of healthy amino acids.

Representatives of China-based travel company Young Pioneer Tours, which specializes in tours in the DPRK, reported on the appearance of the north Korean whiskey. On the company's page on Instagram they posted a photo of two bottles of the "Juche whiskey first in the history of the Country".

Japan's absurd talk about 'abduction by North Korea'

Commentary in Minju Joson

Minju Joson Tuesday comments on the fact that a man in his fifties who had gone missing in 1992 was found in Japan recently.

The man has been on the list of "missing persons" for 27 years and Japan has claimed that the "possibility of abduction by north Korea can not be ruled out."

The Japanese reactionaries unhesitatingly accused the DPRK of "abduction" whenever a citizen went missing, instead of making an investigation.

Japan deliberately blames the problem of missing persons on the DPRK. This shows that the Japanese reactionaries are considerably interested in politicizing the issue and intentionally hyping it in its favor.

The Japanese reactionaries seek to divert the public discontent away from their unjust politics, make feelings of hostility toward the DPRK flare up within the Japanese society by casting a slur on the DPRK and thus make a favorable pretext for realizing their wild ambition for militaristic overseas expansio…

Pyongyang condemns Seoul for plans to buy the latest anti-aircraft missiles from US

According to the author of the article on the Uriminzokkiri portal, this step threatens peace and stability in the region.

Pyongyang, May 28 (Tass) -- South Korea’s plans to acquire surface-to-air missiles from the United States are a direct challenge to the inter-Korean agreement to reduce military tensions. This is stated in a commentary published by the DPRK information portal Uriminzokkiri  ("Together with our nation") on Tuesday.

According to the author of the article, the official Seoul's intention in the near future to introduce American anti-aircraft missiles to the Korean peninsula is a "provocative step by war-mongers" that threatens peace and stability in the region.

"In fact, the list will be endless if we count the south Korean military's vile actions that destroy the peaceful atmosphere on the Korean peninsula and lead to increased tensions," the commentary notes.

In May, the US State Department issued a permit for a deal to sell the…

Over 5,000 people hold candlelight meeting to demand dissolution of LKP

Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- More than 5,000 people of different social standings from Pusan, Ulsan, Taegu, Taejon, etc. in south Korea had a candlelight meeting at the plaza of Kwanghwamun in Seoul on May 25 in demand of the dissolution of the "Liberal Korea Party" (LKP), according to the south Korean online paper Jaju Sibo.

They participated in the meeting holding boards bearing such slogans as "Dissolute LKP!" and "Punish Hwang Kyo An and Ra Kyong Won!"

Speakers at the meeting said that the people are denouncing LKP as it has prevented the chief criminal responsible for the ferry Sewol disaster from punishment and disturbed probing the truth behind the disaster.

They denounced that the group of traitors, the descendants of dictatorship and murderous regimes and the group most corrupt with irregularities and corruption, are crying out for "defense of constitution", "democracy" and "people's livelihood".

After the meeting, th…

Japan should drop evil habit of accusing others

A "specified missing man" was found in Japan recently, according to an announcement by the police of Japan. Japan has claimed that it can not rule out the "possibility of abduction by north Korea" from the case of his missing.

The "specified missing man" reportedly left his home in Yokohama City of Kanagawa Prefecture in May 1992 when he was 26. Then, he went missing. In April this year the Japan police confirmed that he is alive and once served as an "officer of the Ground Self-Defense Force."

The Japanese reactionaries talk about "abduction by north Korea" whenever they cannot find missing persons. The above-said fact clearly proves that their story is just sophism and fabrication.

Like in the past, a "specified missing person" was found in Japan again and Japan has come under public derision as it always passed the buck to others when they could not find such missing persons.

Missing persons are on the…

DPRK FM spokesperson slams U.S. National Security Adviser

Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) -- A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) gave the following answer to a question put by KCNA on May 27 as regards the fact that U.S. National Security Adviser has taken the issue over our regular military drill:

Bolton, U.S. National Security Adviser, has taken the issue over the regular military drill of our army, claiming that it is a violation of the "resolutions" of the United Nations Security Council. His claim is indeed much more than ignorant.

As for the UNSC "resolutions" which Bolton recklessly referred to, we have neither recognized nor bound by them because those "resolutions" are illegal and outrageous ones that completely deny the rights to existence and development of a sovereign state, as we have already stated several times.

If any object is launched, it is bound to fly in trajectory. What the U.S. is taking the issue is not about the range but the p…

Engine for developing self-supporting economy

By Hong Jin Hyok
Rodong Sinmun

Only when a country attaches importance to talents and prioritizes sci-tech development, it can ceaselessly increase the sci-tech power and thus develop the economy in an all-round and comprehensive way.

Even a small country can rank itself among powers and undergo a remarkable development if it has a wealth of talent. On the contrary, if a country, though it is big, lacks talents, its vast territory and rich resources will become worthless and its prospects for prosperity are dim.

Knowledge competition constitutes the main current in the contest of national power among countries, which can be said, in its essence, the brain and knowledge contest of talents.

The socio-economic development depends on how to quickly produce more talents and give fuller play to their ability than others. This hard reality proves that talents serve as the main strategic resources of a country and a nation and as powerful forces responsible for hastening social progress and p…

Let us thoroughly establish beautiful and lofty moral traits throughout whole society

By Rodong Sinmun - May 27, 2019

Imbuing the whole society with the revolutionary moral traits ensures the victory of socialism.

We should wipe out all hues of mixed ideas and evil spirits on the strength of revolutionary moral traits to further strengthen the moral foundation of our style socialism.

It is necessary for us to show the warmest loving care for comrades based on the noble view of life and morality of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un and to make sure that the revolutionary morality runs through the work system and discipline and that good virtue and tender sentiment pervade our society and the collective.

What is imperative here is for the rising generations to carry forward the tradition of revolutionary morality.

We have to put great efforts into the education of the rising generations in good morality to make them value and further glorify the great harmonious socialist family cultivated by the preceding generations.

More efforts needed to maintain biodiversity

By Min Chol

May 22 is International Biodiversity Day.

Public interest in the protection of ecosystem and nature is now growing across the world and eco-tourism revenue makes up 20 percent of global tourism revenue.

Under the circumstances, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization has released a report for the first time to warn that the world’s food production problem will come to a head due to dwindling biodiversity.

Biodiversity plays a pivotal role in boosting the appeal of eco-tourism and an important role in building up the resistance of crops to blight and climate change in agricultural production.

Experts ascribe dwindling biodiversity to the change in the use and management of soil and water, deforestation to put more land under plough, climate change and environmental pollution caused by global warming and poaching.

According to a report of the World Natural Protection Fund, about 25 000 species of animals are on the verge of extinction and two-thirds of wild animals may be e…

Manifestation of will to defend peace and sovereignty

By Song Jong Ho
Pyongyang Times

Recently, there was a contest of anti-aircraft missile units "Key of sky - 2019" at a shooting range in Russia’s Astrakhan.

Units stationed in the suburbs of Moscow, Kaliningrad, Far East and other regions competed in such events as loading and driving, removal and deployment of combat equipment, and polluted area surmounting, and fired over 50 live shells.

Earlier, artillerymen of a new-type multiple launch rocket system conducted a live shell firing at the Kapustin Yar shooting range in Astrakhan.

Last April, a flotilla of the Kola branch fleet of the Russian Northern Fleet staged a large-scale military drill in the Barents Sea for a fortnight. According to the public information department of the Northern Fleet, seamen successfully carried out about 70 combat missions by using anti-aircraft and cruise missiles, guns, torpedoes, anti-submarine bombs and hand grenades.

Two large-size landing crafts ensured the marine transport of units and th…

Truth behind the mess in Venezuela

By Choe Yong Nam

The US has recently intensified interference in the internal affairs of anti-US nations and threats to invade them.

And the Venezuelan crisis it triggered has created a strained atmosphere in the international community.

The designation of Juan Guaido as "temporary president" of Venezuela, recognition of a person nominated by him as acting Venezuelan ambassador to the US and pressure on other nations to suspend financial transactions with the Venezuelan government--all the US actions far exceed expectations. In addition, the US administration nominated Elliott Abrams, a neoconservative who was involved in the Iran-Contras incident and the military coup to support the Nicaraguan opposition forces under the Reagan administration in the 1980s, as a presidential special envoy for Venezuelan affairs.

What then does the US' undisguised intervention in the internal affairs of Venezuela suggest?

The US tries to contain Russia and China and have a monopoly on the…

Japan's sixth defence programme, another step towards militarization

By Om Ryong

Japan adopted a "defence programme" for the sixth time last year.

The first one it launched in 1976 focused on building essential capabilities to defend the country.

The second one was adopted in 1995 with an eye to "promoting international peacekeeping activities for national defence".

Through the adoption of the third programme in 2004, Japan opened the door to overseas dispatch of the Self-Defence Forces, and the fourth and fifth ones in 2010 and 2013 set it as targets to develop various military capabilities of the SDF including the mobile and deployment abilities and the ability to attack enemy bases, and to centralize the command system.

As seen above, Japan's so-called "defence programmes" served to build up its armed forces systematically under the signboard of "defence and peace".

Then what does the sixth programme suggest to the international community?

The core of it is the development of "versatile and integrated…

Japan's deep-rooted devil heart to cross out Chongryon

By Ho Yong Min
Rodong Sinmun - May 26, 2019

Shortly ago, the Japanese authorities gave a written answer in the name of the Cabinet to questions raised by a Diet member against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon). The keynote of the answer is that Chongryon may commit "violent acts of sabotage if the situation presents itself" as it is in "close contact with north Korea" and accordingly, they regard Chongryon as a rebel organization.

The Japanese reactionaries in the written answer labeled Chongryon as a target of investigation under the Act for the Prevention of Sabotage while bringing 14 kinds of false charges against Chongryon like "abduction" and "illegal export".

All their moves show that the Japanese authorities remain unchanged in their hostile policy towards the DPRK and Chongryon despite the changed situation and peaceful climate on the Korean penin…

Japan's smear campaign against DPRK

Shameless and wicked swindling and plot-breeding racket

The Japan police recently announced that a "specified missing person" was located in the country. They have so far claimed that "his possible abduction by north Korea can not be ruled out".

This has given the lie to the story about "abduction" touted by the Japanese reactionaries.

It is not the first time that the specified persons who were reported to have gone missing were discovered in Japan.

A person whom they claimed to have been abducted by north Korea emerged as a dead body inside the premise of a second-hand ship import and export company in Chiba Prefecture in August 2013. There are other ample examples of the discovery of "specified missing persons", when counting only those revealed by the Japanese media, notably those in September in 2013, November in 2014, June and October in 2015, and June and December in 2016.

This clearly proves the absurdity of the "abduction i…

Thorough application of people-first principle is fundamental principle

Fundamental principle of state building and activities

By Kim Chol Ryong
Rodong Sinmun

Today the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) sets it as the main principle of state building and activities to thoroughly apply the people-first principle from an urgent demand of the developing revolution.

To thoroughly apply the people-first principle is the fundamental requirement for uniting the Party, State and people more closely as one community sharing the destiny and it is the inevitable demand for accelerating the socialist construction by giving fullest rein to people's revolutionary enthusiasm and creative strength.

It is also an important demand for decisively rooting out all kinds of dishonest practices encroaching on the people's interests among officials.

For our Party and State, it comes to be the revolutionary climate prevailing throughout the Party and the social customs to make selfless, devoted efforts for the good of the people.

It is the mode of activity of our Party a…

And the crew from the ships gunned to water surface targets, hypothetical enemy fleets.

Africa promotes continental development through South-South cooperation

By Choe Yong Nam

African nations are making united efforts to achieve independent development of the continent.

Last February they held the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union and discussed issues of various fields including free trade and agreement and security. Especially, they explored the ways to bring about economic integration of the continent and overcome new challenges facing it.

In Africa national and tribal contradictions and clashes have caused social instability and disorder and greatly hindered economic development. Therefore African countries are striving to end interference by outside forces and disputes by united efforts and ensure social stability and regional development. In the course of this they have achieved a series of successes.

Ethiopia and Eritrea that were at war for 20 years declared the cessation of war and concluded a peace pact last year. And this year the contending parties of Central Africa signed…

Hostility and prejudice will lead Japan to self-destruction and isolation

May 25, 2019

The rash acts of hostility of Japan towards the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), an organization of overseas citizens of our dignified Republic, harden the Korean nation's will to settle accounts with the former.

At a recent meeting of the Cabinet ministers, the Japanese authorities, finding fault with Chongryon, defined it as an object subject to investigation under the Act for the Prevention of Sabotage, and adopted a decision to the effect that it is possible that the latter can commit a violent act of sabotage.

The Japanese authorities' branding Chongryon as an "anti-state organization" is a vivid manifestation of their deep-rooted hostile policy towards the DPRK and an expression of their vicious and black-hearted intention to crack down and stamp out Chongryon at any cost.

Chongryon has consistently worked for defending and ensuring the life and interests of Koreans in Japan and promoting friendship…

Militaristic Japan puts regional peace at risk

By Song Jong Ho

Recently, the Japanese defence ministry offcially decided on possessing a computer virus as defence equipment allegedly to cope with cyber-attacks.

Accordingly, the virus is reportedly to be developed within this year.

Kyodo News reported that it was the first time for the ministry to have a virus aimed at disturbing others’ information communications network and that there is a fear that it would go beyond the exclusive defence, depending on its application.

This suggests that the virus to be developed by Japan may assume not only a defensive character but also an offensive one.

Under the veil of meeting the requirements of modern warfare Japan has already extended the boundaries of its Self-Defence Forces to the cyber and outer spaces as well as the conventional fields of the ground, naval and air forces.

Five years ago, the defence ministry formed the 90-strong cyber defence corps and beefed up its strength over 10 times in 2017.

Japan has now built a powerful milit…

South Korean authorities should break with idea of confrontation

KCNA Commentary

Pyongyang, May 25 (KCNA) -- Recently, the U.S. Strategic Command made public that the south Korean military authorities took part for the first time in the nuclear attack drill Global Thunder that took place secretly at an air force base in North Dakota State, U.S. in November last year.

As known, Global Thunder drill is an annual global nuclear war drill that has been conducted in secrecy under the direction of the U.S. Strategic Command with the involvement of the 5th Bombing Group with B-52Hs and the 91st Missile Group with Minuteman-3s.

The U.S. had openly claimed in 2017 that one of the main purposes of the Global Thunder drill is to get familiar with the operation for striking the nuclear facilities in the DPRK.

Then, we cannot but ask the south Korean military authorities what happened in the Korean peninsula last year.

They signed the historic April 27 Panmunjom Declaration, the September Pyongyang Joint Declaration and the north-south agreement on military field la…

Sordid nature of LKP

By CPRC Reunification and Agitation Department

The Reunification and Agitation Department of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Country (CPRC) of the DPRK released an indictment on May 24, revealing the sordid nature of the "Liberal Korea Party" (LKP) keen on covering up their high-profile crimes and taking power again under the pretext of the "people's livelihood" and "security":

The LKP is a group of gangsters that have inherited the "tradition" of fascist dictators.

Far back in the past at the time of its first predecessor "Liberal Party", it enforced fascist dictatorship by invoking the "Security Law". At the times of the "Democratic Republican Party", it instituted "anti-communist law", "yusin constitution" and "social security law". In the 1980s it enacted a "draft law on assembly and demonstration". Through the fabrication of more than 100 …
